OPENING DAY PARADE

The official opening day for baseball, softball, and soccer is Saturday, April 20th, and we are kicking off the season with a parade and ceremony, sponsored by the Darien Lions Club. The players will have the opportunity to walk in the parade with their team, and parents, grandparents, family, and friends can cheer them on. After the parade, a brief ceremony will occur, whereby several officials will say a few words to commemorate the occasion. The event will culminate in the unveiling and dedication of the DYC Donor Wall. The kids can then enjoy a hot dog, drink, and snacks before the games begin.

Please drop your players, dressed in uniform, off at 8:30am at the Ironwood Avenue (south) side of the Darien Swim and Racquet Club parking lot, and then park at Mark DeLay Elementary School or at the Darien Swim and Racquet Club. The parade will kick off at the corner of Hinsbrook Avenue and Wilmette Avenue at 9:00am, proceed down Wilmette Avenue, and end at Mark Delay Elementary School. Spectators, please fill out the entire parade route, and then participate in all of the festivities at Mark Delay.

SOCCER LOGO CONTEST WINNERS

The DYC Soccer Logo Contest Winners were honored at the April DYC Board Meeting. Emila Griswold from Lace Elementary School won the contest with her design, “Soccer Ball with Flames.” Audrey Mulgrew from Hinsdale South came in 2nd place. The 3rd place winner, Sophia Tisoc of Eisenhower Junior High, was unable to attend the meeting.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a design and everyone who took the time to vote. We plan to expand this contest next year and include other schools in our area.

UMPIRE TRAINING

Umpire field training will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 14th at Eisenhower Junior High.

DISTRICT 66 FIELDS

The DYC is excited to announce that we are partnering with District 66 to add the Lakeview and Prairieview fields to our program. We are going to hold softball, soccer, and baseball practices and games at these fields, and we have two batting cages on site as well.

DYC is always working to expand our program, utilize local facilities, and work with our neighborhood schools in order to provide the best possible experience for our DYC families.

GOLF OUTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are in need of committee members and volunteers to help with the upcoming golf outing on May 25th.

The first committee meeting will be held this Monday, 4/15, at 6:30pm at the Darien Swim and Rec Club.

BASKETBALL OPEN GYM

DYC Basketball is hosting Open Gyms at Hinsdale South High School in the field house this spring. It is open to both boys and girls in grade levels 3rd - 8th. Depending on the numbers we have for the 7th grade and 8th grade, we will do 3 on 3 full court. 3 on 3 is a great way for young players to develop in the game and understand space and play.

Here's the breakdown of courts:

Court 1: 3rd grade and 4th grade
Court 2: 5th grade and 6th grade
Court 3: 7th grade and 8th grade
Court 4: Adults hoops

Time: 4:00 - 6:00 pm

Cost: Free to Darien Knights players and families. For everyone else, the cost is $5.

THANKS TROOP 101

Last week, a group of Scouts from Troop 101 helped DYC conduct spring clean up at Lace Elementary School. The Scouts worked for hours picking up trash, leaves, and wood to get the grounds ready for spring sports. We really appreciate your efforts.
